Souper Bowl is this Sunday!
1/2/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This Sunday the America's biggest sporting event will be held in Tampa Bay, Florida. This championship of the National Football League is called the "Super Bowl". At St. Vladimir's that morning we will hold our annual "Souper Bowl". Given that approximately $15 billion will be spent on this one day in drinks, snacks, and meals - that comes out to about $81 per ever American man, woman, and child - we are asking everyone to find $8.10 donate to our Souper Bowl efforts. If every St. Vladimirian adult member can do this we'll raise over $1200 to fight hunger in community! And we'll have the opportunity to accept non-perishable food items that day too. Please help as you can!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

The parable about the talents offers the thought that life is a time for trading.

That means that it is necessary to hasten to use this time as a person would hurry to a market to bargain for what he can. Even if one has only brought bast shoes, or only bast, (very inexpensive, unsophisticated items) he does not sit with his arms folded, but contrives to call over buyers to sell what he has and then buy for himself what he needs.

No one who has received life from the Lord can say that he does not have a single talenteveryone has something, and not just one thing; everyone, therefore, has something with which to trade and make a profit.

Do not look around and calculate what others have received, but take a good look at yourself and determine more precisely what lies in you and what you can gain for that which you have, and then act according to this plan without laziness.

At the Judgment you will not be asked why you did not gain ten talents if you had only one, and you will not even be asked why you gained only one talent on your one, but you will be told that you gained a talent, half a talent or a tenth of its worth.

And the reward will not be because you received the talents, but because you gained.

There will be nothing with which to justify yourselfnot with nobleness, nor poverty, nor lack of education. When this is not given, there will be no question about it.

But you had hands and feet. You will be asked, what did you gain with them?

You had a tongue, what did you gain with it?

In this way will the inequalities of earthly states be leveled out at Gods judgment.

Volunteer to Help Ann Arbor Orthodox Classical Academy
29/1/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Things are really ramping up as we get ready to open our parish day school in September of 2021! Enough, in fact, that we need more than just our board of directors working on the many things that need to be done. Could you help? Maybe one or two hours per month? Maybe a little more? Please send us a note to let us know youd like to help, and mention the skill sets youd like to utilize in this volunteer work. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help us start strong as we open the first Orthodox School in Michigan later this year!
